The CNMV is organising the course "Towards more sustainable finance: challenges and opportunities" in collaboration with the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), which will take place on 26, 27 and 28 June at the Palacio de la Magdalena, the UIMP's headquarters in Santander.

Securities markets have an important role to play in the transition towards more sustainable and inclusive growth. Many countries around the world recognise the urgent need to address climate, environmental and social challenges, and have set commensurate goals, such as the Paris Agreement and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The European Union, on the basis of the European Green Deal, has taken multiple initiatives and developed an ambitious regulatory agenda, in which the development of sustainable finance is an essential pillar.

Sustainable finance aims to incorporate environmental, social and governance elements into business management and investment decision-making, ensuring the reliability of investor information. It manages the financial risks derived from climate change, promotes transparency and a long-term vision in economic and financial activities and, in short, facilitates the redirection of capital flows towards products and investments that favour sustainable growth.

This course will provide a comprehensive overview of the current situation of sustainable finance, the role of the different agents involved in financial markets, especially securities markets, and the main initiatives and challenges we face, offering a practical vision of their implementation and development. To this end, it will be attended by representatives of the highest level, both from public and private institutions, in the most relevant areas related to sustainable finance.
